Baby's Breath

There are few things any sweeter than the breath of a newborn baby.
Meet my first grandson, Miller James.

The "Miller" is for Ernest Hemingway, whose middle name was Miller, and whose life was the subject of my daughter's dissertation.  She is a Hemingway Scholar.  On the other end of the spectrum, the "James" is for two of her favorite entertainers - Jimmy Buffet and James Taylor.  Poor kid won't know whether to bury his nose in a book or break out the guitar and start singing.

In any event, he arrived in fine fashion yesterday, weighing in at a solid 8 pounds and 4 ounces.  His mom came through like a champ and his dad can't stop smiling.
As for his grandparents - well - do you even have to ask?

Miller's Mural

We're still on baby watch around here.  To pass the time, my daughter and I have spent the past two weeks painting a mural for his nursery wall.

I designed it and did the sketch freehand onto the wall.  Then we both painted (and painted...and painted) and finally completed everything yesterday afternoon.
His name is Miller, and it made sense to create a little tropical island for him to enjoy.  Our entire family loves the ocean, and I designed a village where each family member is represented - along with a bit of their personality.

Hope he enjoys living with this as much as his mom and I enjoyed creating it.

As soon as he makes his debut, I'll post those pics!

Hope Springs

Fresh-picked from the studio is a new group of garden-inspired images.  Lots of birds, fruits and flowers combine with words of hope in colors that I love - baby peas, a spring sunrise, azaleas in bloom.

Speaking of babies - we were speaking of babies, weren't we? - my first grandson is due any day now.  I will keep you posted.  My daughter is begging me not to plaster his picture all over the airwaves when he arrives - but since when have I ever listened to her?
